Week 8
And so we reach our third weekly summary after eight weeks with Daisy. We have stayed at some of our favourite sites so far with plenty to do and see during the day as well as a safe place to sleep.
We have left our car on a family driveway and Becky is now in the Motorhome with the whole family as we travel from place to place. This means we have to plan a little more when we go places as the Motorhome is our only way to get about.
We’ve crossed a few counties this week with brief stopovers and are making progress toward Scotland. Read some of our highlights below and check out any blog posts that you might have missed.

Living life in our MoHo
I got quite frustrated on Thursday. Having researched a parking spot. I was directed to the car park set aside for motorhomes: medium and large only to find we could not fit in the designated spaces and were not permitted to park in the completely empty coach park. We phoned the county council from the car park and asked their advice. They guided us around the car park looking for spaces but were unable to locate one.
We did manage to park, squeezing into a regular space but sticking out a fair way. We paid the price of a car, not a coach, and headed into town.
I feel sad to see so much space and yet we are not allowed to use it. We tried to do the right thing but were just not catered for.
Friday was another parking experience. Again we had done as much research as possible and arrived at Chatsworth’s West Car Park. We were redirected to the Golden Gate Car Park and down into a field. I already had my hesitations as it had rained heavily on Thursday night and this was a low grass field. Before we even reached a space the wheels started spinning. We had explained to every marshall on the way in that we are a heavy vehicle and pleaded for them to park us where we would be able to get out.
The final marshall we spoke with was very understanding having seen us already spinning. He allowed us to park right near the road and boundary where we wanted. After the show, we prepared as well as possible and with no passengers onboard, I tried first gear, reverse, rocking it back and forth and eventually found some traction in second gear, slowly inching continuously forward through the barrier onto the road. It was a high five moment of relief.
We tried to think optimistically throughout the day. I mean if we had gotten stuck we had our home with us and a free nights pitch wouldn’t be unwelcome. There was always the JCB display team to help us out anyway.
I guess we are learning what we can do with the Motorhome and to be sure of getting what we need when we park.
