Meeting the Masai
The legendary tribal people of the Masai Mara. As awesome as expected!
This afternoon we decided to attend a talk about the Masai. We learnt that Masai means 'people who speak Maa'. 'Maa' being their language. Apparently there were 400,000 Masai at the last census ten years ago when the Kenyan population was 34 million (34,000,000). The majority of the talk didn't teach us much as the Masai live a life very similar to that of the Samburu people and we have learnt a fair bit about the Masai before. (Trusty Bruce Parry) We were privileged, following the talk, to see some traditional Masai dancing and singing. Again, quite similar to the performance the Samburu people gave but slightly different costume and the jumping. If you don't know about the jumping you'll need to see the photos.
