A Baboon in our Room
I often retell this story as one of my truths in ‘two truths and a lie’ when I'm getting to know people. - My confrontation with a baboon.
Dear housekeeping,
We are very sorry. Whilst we sat Looking out from our balcony this morning, a baboon came in and took our peanut bowl. He dropped most of the peanuts but unfortunately got away with the bowl and napkins. You will find these things over the balcony outside our room. We hope you will be able to retrieve them.
With thanks and regret
Damian and Becky

We had returned from our balloon flight, breakfast and a game drive and settled ourselves with the balcony open to flick through some of our photos.
Whilst we sat, I heard thudding and rose to peek round the wall. The baboon in question swung over the rail, into the room and perched momentarily on our bed. I tried to bargain with him (by this I mean shout loudly, dance around like a fool and generally rely on my survival instincts) at which point he grabbed the peanut bowl and scampered out. He sat a few feet from us enjoying the nuts (just to rub it in). We managed to close the doors and tidy away what he had dropped he did return to clear up his crumbs and peer into the room to see if he had missed any. Seems quiet now but we dare not open the doors again.
